Road crashes from January to June 2023 have claimed 1,086 lives.
A total of 7,807 injuries have also been recorded within the same period.
These were contained in a report on the road traffic crash and casualty situation provisional statistics for January to June issued by Motor Transport and Traffic Directorate (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service.
According to the report, Ghana recorded 1,300 deaths in road crashes within the same period in 2022 which implies that the number has decreased by 214 this year.
The recorded injuries has also reduced by 200 when comparing the 2023 figure of 7,807 to the 2022 figure of 8,007.
Pedestrian knock downs in 2023 were 1,205 as against a total of 1,356 in 2022 in the period under review.
In all, the report indicated that 6,904 cases of road crashes were reported from January to June this year and this involved 11,763 vehicles across the country.
Per the statistics above, the number of road crashes, injuries and death toll for January to June 2023 is relatively lower than the same period under review for 2022.
