Four victims, whose conditions have been described as critical, in the near fatal accident involving 50 church members of the Resurrection Power New Generation Church on Sunday have been transferred to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.
About 10 of them who sustained various degrees of injuries following the accident are currently on admission at the Weija-Gbawe Municipal Hospital receiving medical care.
The incident happened at Menskrom near Weija Junction on the Accra-Kasoa highway, on June 4 involving four cars.
The four cars are a Tata bus, which carried the members of the Resurrection Power New Generation Church, an old Benz, KIA Rio taxi and a Toyota Vitz belonging to a police officer.
Eyewitnesses claim that a police officer, who was driving from Kasoa tollbooth to Accra, made a wrong overtaking and in the process crossed the bus; resulting in the accident.
Upon getting to the Weija junction traffic light, the police officer’s car run into the church bus, which also crashed into two other vehicles parked along the shoulders of the road.
Some of the eyewitnesses blamed the police officer in the Toyota Vitz for the accident.
The bus was carrying about 50 passengers including children. A taxi driver, whose car was affected, also blamed the accident on the police officer.
Personnel of the Ghana Fire Service and the police team were at the scene to ensure the free flow of traffic.
Meanwhile, Joy News reports that some members of the Resurrection church who allegedly assaulted the police officer accused of causing the accident have been arrested.
