The Despite Group of Companies has retracted and apologized to ace investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, for slanderous comments its presenters made against him. Anas in April sued Kwame Nkrumah and Kwame Amoh who work for Despite affiliate Okay FM, arguing that the defendants broadcasted and published defamatory comments against him and his associates during a discussion on investigative documentaries on their programme entitled Ade Akye Abia. But following the writ of summons, the plaintiff and defendants acting through their lawyers held discussions, negotiated and agreed on an amicable settlement of dispute. RETRACTION AND APOLOGY As part of the agreement, the defendants obliged to publish in the Daily Graphic an unconditional and unreserved retraction and apology as captured below: RETRACTION AND APOLOGY TO ANAS AREMEYAW ANAS BY THE OKAY FM, KWAME NKRUMAH AND KWAME AMOH On 7 March 2019 on the Ade Akye Abia Morning Show on Okay 101.7 FM in Accra, our broadcasters, Kwame Nkrumah alias Kwame Nkrumah Tikesie and Kwame Amoah in discussing investigative documentaries including “Galamsey Fraud Part One” produced by Anas Aremeyaw Anas and his Tiger Eye PI associates made some allegations and comments relating to the work of Anas Aremeyaw Anas. Kwame Nkrumah Tikesie, in his presentation on the said documentary, uttered words which suggested to the audience that Mr. Anas was a criminal who engages in extortion, bribery and blackmail of identifiable persons. The presenter also stated that he has knowledge of a person from whom they claimed Mr. Anas extorted an amount of GHC 500,000.00. He also stated that Mr. Anas’ criminal conduct is encouraging other journalists, including Manasseh Azure Awuni of Joy FM to engage in extortion, bribery and corruption. The said allegations have been found to be false and same should not have been made on our FM Station. In this regard, the comments relating to this incorrect statement is most regrettable. The Management of Okay FM, Kwame Nkrumah alias Kwame Nkrumah Tikesie and Kwame Amoh do hereby apologize and unconditionally and unreservedly retract the allegations and comments made against Anas Aremeyaw Anas and his associates during the discussions on the Morning Show. Finally, OK FM undertakes not to further publish or reproduce the said allegations and comments made on 7 March 2019 on any of its platforms. The apology statement was signed by the Chief Executive of Despite Company Limited, Kwame Nkrumah and Kwame Amoh. Source: 3news.com | Ghana]]>
