The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has successfully evacuated a total of 80 Ghanaians from Sudan following the deadly clashes between Sudanese Armed Forces and Paramilitary Rapid Support Forces.
Out of the number, 74 Ghanaians were received by officials of the Ministry at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) on Tuesday, May 2, 2023.
A statement issued by the Ministry reads as follows: “they were met on arrival by the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong, Ghana’s Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union Commission (AU), Ambassador Amma A. Twum-Amoah, and other officials from the Ministry as well as some members of the Ghana Psychological Association.”
It added that six other Ghanaians, including two footballers and four engineers, were evacuated through the border of Wadi Halfa in Egypt.
The Ministry also expressed appreciation to all stakeholders for making the evacuation a success.
