The Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta has pat the Akufo-Addo-led government on the back for what he called easing the hardship of Ghanaians within the short period it took over power.
In his prelude to the 2019 budget and financial statement of government on Thursday November 15, 2018, the minister appeared content with the direction the country is heading to.
This is not to say the nation is out of the woods, he conceded, “we are not proud that there is still hardship in the country”.
However, he was proud that the government has done enough to “ease the impact of the hardships that the
Ghanaian people had been resigned to prior to December 7, 2016.”
“We are not there yet, we still have a long way to go,” he acknowledged as he assured the nation of government’s commitment to make things better for Ghanaians.
“The nation is moving forward under this government, and moving forward under the right direction,” Ken Ofori Atta pointed out to naysayers.
The Finance Minister stressed that the financial assistance the government entered with the International Monetary Fund, thus the Extended Credit Facility which Ghana benefitted from US$955.2 million will come to an end this year.
The 2019 budget has been themed: “A stronger Economy for Jobs and Prosperity”.
Briefly touching on some achievements of the government in less than two years, he said the country’s micro economy has been moved from instability to stability, decline in GDP ratio as well as creation of jobs.
