The District Chief Executive for Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa in the Central Region, Isaac Odoom, has with immediate effect instructed politicians in the catchment area stop displaying their pictures and political posters on Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) they share or donate to residents.
The decision by the DCE was to prevent the situation where residents refuse to use items that have been branded with a particular political party they do not share ideology with.
In the wake of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, several individuals and organizations are providing PPEs to institutions and communities to enhance the fight against the deadly pandemic.
Especially, politicians would want to post their pictures or political campaign posters on these PPEs before distributions or donation.
Most politicians have branded their PPEs such as Veronica buckets, sanitizers, food, among others, with their campaign posters.
Mr. Odoom in an interview with the media explained that he relied on his authority as the Chairman of the District Security Council (DISEC) to order that all such posters be removed and those who are yet to make such moves to desist.
He explained in Fante: “The people in my area, who are diehard political ‘animals’, refuse to use PPEs, particularly ‘Veronica Buckets’ that have the pictures of a politician they do not support”.
The DCE is therefore asking other DCEs across the country to emulate his action.
