For a celebrity, being in the public’s eye, aside all the glory, does also come with some downsides – controversies, rumours and criticisms.
While admitting that one is not immune and cannot shy away or run from these downsides, bubbly actress Benedicta Gafah says she has developed a tough skin for them.
The pretty actress, who also hosts TV3’s popular music show, Music Music, has over the years been at the receiving end of rumours, controversies, and criticisms.
Responding to a question as to how she handles rumours, the actress told Giovani Caleb on Showbiz 360 on TV3 that she no longer loses sleep over them.
“At first when I used to hear my stories and my names in the news and all that I used to be bothered but my elder brother sat me down one day and was like ‘if you want to be in this business, you need to grow a tough skin’…” she said.
The fashionista recounted that, her brother asked her, “‘whatever that is going on, is it true?’ and I said ‘no’, and he said ‘do they pay your bills?’ and I said ‘no’ and he said, ‘do they feed you?’ and I said ‘no’, do they give you shelter?’ and I said ‘no’.”
Asked which rumour was she surprised to hear about herself, Benedicta Gafah revealed that it had to do with an alleged marriage to someone in the US.
“Ghanaians I’m begging you, the day I will get married, I will tell you guys myself,” she dispelled the pesky rumours.
After years of being very good at what she does, the bubbly actress stressed that no human is perfect.
“Growing in this industry, I understand I’m human I’m not perfect. I will do mistakes and those mistakes [are] what has made me who I am today,” Benedicta Gafah acknowledged. “You need the good and bad you need to put it together and build a stronger you…”
The actress, who is about to start a new show on Onua TV, said she is aware that a lot of people look up to her and she does not want to disappoint anyone.
She urged people to stay safe and adhere to all the protocols – including wearing of face mask – put in place to curb the COVID-19 pandemic.
