There are two groups of Christians today: those who have come to “use” God to achieve their personal ambitions and those who have come for God to use them to achieve His purpose.
I refer to the first group as spiritual dictators. They dictate the terms and conditions of their walk with God and expect Him to fall in line lest they advise themselves. They themselves are not ready to fall in the line of God’s word.
As far as such Christians are concerned, God must always be at their beck and call. And if God should delay in answering their prayers within the ultimatum they have specified, it means He has failed them.
Such an attitude only results in spiritual shallowness. True Christianity is to know the ways of God and to be found in His will. If we can get deep with God, we must throw away our pomposity, surrender our will for His, and be ready to do His bidding.
“Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.” (1 Peter 5:6)
