Celebrated singer-songwriter Kojo Antwi has objected to being called a legend.
His host Roselyn Felli of the ‘Prime Morning’ programme on Accra-based Joy Prime had called him a legend.
“Not yet,” Kojo Antwi raised his left index finger in objection. “I’m still working at it.”
The ‘Enfa Me Nko Ho’ hitmaker believes the accolade makes one complacent when there is much more work to be done.
“The legend thing is good, but when they give you the title, ‘the legend’, it sounds like you’ve arrived – you’ve done everything and there’s nothing else to do,” he explained.
He stunned Roselyn when he hinted at some major changes come 2023 including a name change.
“There’s a change of name coming,” he said but hesitated to explain.
“The ‘Kojo Antwi’ name is still be there,” he stressed in clarification. “What it’s done is still there. I can always go back and tap into it.”
Maintaining the cryptic tone, he was quick to add: “But I still believe there’s a lot that I have that is not out there. There’s a whole lot coming.”
Kojo Antwi is a Ghanaian Highlife titan of international repute.
His 2000 song ‘Tom & Jerry’ was a widespread hit in West Africa.
His debut solo album ‘All I Need Is You’ was released in 1986 and went on to become a bestselling chart-topper.
The multiple award-winning musician has trophies from multiple awards schemes including Ghana Music Awards, the West Africa Tourism awards, All Africa Music awards and Kora awards.
The multi-instrumentalist was Ghana’s first Black Entertainment Television (BET) nominee; 2010. He was part of the first ever Best International Act category.
In 2015, the vocalist nicknamed ‘Mr Music Man’ and his administration were sworn in to lead the Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO) with him as Chairman.
Born Julius Kojo Antwi, the artiste who creates with Highlife, Carribean, Soukous, R&B influences sings mostly about love although he also has Gospel cuts.
