The security agencies have been given firm instruction to arrest anyone who will parade himself as the chief of Bawku aside Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II.
There was a ceremony at Nalerigu in the North East region in which a new chief was enskinned as the Bawku Naba on Wednesday, February 15, 2023.
Bawku has been a hotspot for conflicts for the past weeks. At least 15 people have died in the renewed conflicts.
The Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah issued a statement on Friday indicating that government condemns the enskinment in Nalerigu.
It said the installation of a new Bawku Naba is “illegal and a threat to National Security”.
The statement maintained, “Government further re-iterates that Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II is the Bawku Naba, duly gazetted and a member of the National and Upper East Regional Houses of Chiefs.”
The security agencies were therefore directed to deal decisively with anyone who tries to foment trouble, in order to maintain law and order in the troubled area.
“The Security agencies have therefore been directed to arrest and prosecute any other person who holds himself out as a Bawku Naba.
“Further, any developments that have the potential to undermine the peace of Bawku will also be dealt with swiftly and in accordance with law.”
