Former Inspector General of Police, Peter Nanfuri has passed on.
He died at the age of 80 on Friday morning, February 17, 2023.
Peter Tenganabang Nanfuri was the Paramount Chief of the Jirapa Traditional Area with the title Naa Ansoleh Ganaa II.
He served as Inspector General of Police in Ghana from October 1, 1996 to January 21, 2001 during the era of Ghana’s former president, Jerry John Rawlings.
Towards the end of his service as IGP, he came under severe pressure due to the serial murder of some women in the Greater Accra Region.
He was replaced as IGP with Mr. Ernest Owusu-Opoku by former President John Kufuor in 2001.
He worked in various capacities within the Ghana Police Service and was once the Director of the then Bureau of National Investigation (BNI) in 1986.
Nanfuri was born at Jirapa in the Upper West Region. He studied at the University of Ghana, Legon where he obtained a B.A. degree in Political Science.
