Former President John Mahama has called on the general public, especially the rank and file of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), to disregard a list purported to be NDC Members of Parliament who voted for the approval of the new ministers appointed by President Akufo-Addo.
Former President Mahama further underscored the need for the MPs, whom many have described as traitors, to be talked to, noting that “you don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater”.
Mr. Mahama made the call at Ellembelle Constituency in the Western Region when he toured the constituency to canvas for votes for the flagbearership position of the NDC.
The NDC goes to polls on May 13, 2023, to elect candidates for the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.
Parliament after hours of voting approved the nomination of the six new ministers on Friday, in spite of the insistence by the Minority caucus in Parliament to reject the nominees.
The outcome of Friday’s vote indicates several members of the Minority voted for the approval of the ministerial nominees.
Wading into the saga, former President Mahama said in Twi, “something happened in Parliament that we were all not happy about and I have seen some fake list on social media indicating that those MPs voted against the NDC. The list is alleging that they voted against NDC and it is a fake list. And so I am urging all NDC supporters to ignore it”.
Deputy Minority Leader in Parliament, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah insisted that the minority will fish out the 31 NDC Members of Parliament who voted for the approval of the Ministers of the current government.
However, the MP for Ellembelle acknowledged that those MPs are still needed for future business in the House.
“We shall look for the 31 MPs who voted for the approval and talk to them because we have several of CIs ahead of us”, Mr. Armah Kofi Buah explained.
