The Global Aid for the Marginalized – Ghana (GAM- Ghana), a human rights and development organization, has reached out to some homeless people, street children, and marginalized individuals in the national capital, Accra, breathing new life into the hearts and minds of those often overlooked.
The organization empowers the oppressed and those denied of their basic rights to live a fulfilling life while renovating dilapidated social initiatives or structures in the areas of education, health, water and sanitation. The organization is an advocate of the sustainable development goals 1-4 and 6.
The exercise, according to GAM- Ghana, was not just about distributing sustenance, “it was about rekindling the lost spark of human connection”. The volunteers approached each recipient with genuine warmth and compassion, taking the time to listen to their stories. With each exchange, the invisible barriers between the marginalized and the rest of society began to crumble, and a sense of shared humanity emerged.
Reflecting on the event, Francis Botchwey, the Director of Global Aid for the Marginalized – Ghana, remarked: “This initiative is a testament to the power of collective action and the immense capacity for change within each of us. By providing nourishment and support to those most in need, we are not only filling empty stomachs but also nurturing dreams and inspiring resilience.”
He added, ‘’we believe that everyone deserves access to a nutritious meal and the warmth of humanity. We hope to establish this daily food distribution where a van will move in the streets of Accra daily to distribute food to the vulnerable in the street.
“When this is established, we will welcome food donations from hotels, restaurants and food vendors who wants to be part of this great event. We hope to ignite a positive change in the lives of the most vulnerable individuals within our community.”
Francis Botchwey urged all to join hands to sustain the exercise, and to ensure that no one goes to bed hungry.
