Minority boycott Parliament to show support for Gyakye Quayson and Ato Forson

The Minority Caucus in Parliament has boycotted parliamentary proceedings to support two of their members who are standing trial at the law court.

The Thursday, July 6 boycott is aimed at showing solidarity to the two, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, who is the leader of the Caucus and Assin North MP James Gyakye Quayson.

It is recalled that Mr. James Gyakye Quayson is undergoing trial at the High Court in Accra for charges of forgery and perjury while Dr Ato Forson is also facing a criminal case related to an alleged financial loss of €2.37 million to the state.

According to a statement issued by its Chief Whip, Governs Kwame Agboza, the boycott is one of the actions the caucus would use to cease the persecution of their leader and colleague.

“The NDC Minority in Parliament has boycotted today’s sitting to enable Members accompany and solidarize with two members of our Caucus, namely the Minority Leader, Hon. Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, and MP for Assin North, Hon. James Gyakye Quayson,” said the Chief Whip.

The statement added that “the two are due to appear in court this morning in their respective ongoing prosecutions by the Attorney-General and the NPP Government”.

“This is the beginning of a series of actions that the Caucus will be embarking on to end the ongoing persecution ofthe Minority Leader himself, the Hon. James Gyakye Quayson and the Hon. Collins Dauda.”

The Minority reiterated their resolve to stand by their colleagues saying that they will extend the same support to any other member under similar situations.

The statement concluded that, “we wish to reiterate the point that amidst persecution, cooperation will suffer.”

who would your most humble servant be?

At a time when power is flaunted more than it is earned, we rise with a different call: #TumiNniSuban—Power without character is nothing. We are done with leaders who wear authority like a costume but lack the soul to serve. Leadership must reflect the people’s dignity, not diminish it. So we ask If elections were held today, who would your most humble servant be?
