The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) would organise a run-off next week, after Saturday’s special electoral college of the party failed to produce five candidates for the November 4, 2023 presidential primary.
This has become necessary after two of the 10 candidates tied, polling 9 votes each.
The tiebreaker will decide between Francis Addai Nimoh and Boakye Kyeremanteng Agyarko, who will join Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Kennedy Agyapong, Alan Kyerematen and Dr. Afriyie Akoto for the top five.
Former Speaker of Parliament and Chairman of the NPP Vetting Committee, Prof. Mike Aaron Ocquaye has announced that a run-off would be held next week Saturday, Septemeber 2 for the two candidates.
However, he noted that the exercise would be shelved if there is a compromise.
But as it stands now, the same number of delegates are expected to repeat today’s exercise next week in all the 17 polling centres.
A total of 927 delegates cast their votes in today’s election.
The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia won by landslide, winning in all the 17 polling centres including the party’s national headquarters, with 629 votes representing 68.15 percent of the total valid votes cast.

Kennedy Ohene Agyapong – 132 votes (14.30 percent)
Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen – 95 votes (10.29 percent)
Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto – 36 votes (3.90 percent)
Francis Addai Nimoh – 9 votes (0.98 percent).
Boakye Kyeremanteng Agyarko – 9 votes (0.98 percent).
Kwabena Agyei Agyepong – 6 votes
Joe Ghartey – 4 votes
Kwadwo Poku – 3 votes
Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku – 0 vote
