Preparations are currently underway at the Black Star Square in Accra ahead of Ghana’s 61st Independence Day celebration Tuesday March 6. Media General’s Sarah Parku who visited the parade grounds reports that “preparations are swiftly underway” “There are labourers here busily cleaning chairs. Painting works are also ongoing, mounting of stages as well as sowing of canopies”, she added. The Independence parade is an annual event held at the Independence Square, as part of the celebration to commemorate the declaration of Independence on 6th March 1957. Meanwhile, supervisors from Zoomlion who spoke to our reporter say they have deployed about 600 workers to the ground to ensure they weed and clean everywhere ahead of the event and also stay up until the program is over. They are however complaining that hawkers are making their work difficult. The 61st Independence Day celebration is under the theme “Ghana Beyond Aid” and is expected to attract high profile personalities across Africa.
