Pius Enam Hadzide and Kwadwo Baah Agyeman[/caption] President Akufo-Addo has reinstated with immediate effect the suspended Deputy Sports Minister Pius Enam Hadzide and Board Chair of the National Sports Authority Kwadwo Baah Agyeman. The two were suspended the follow the visa scandal that rocked Ghana’s participation in this year’s Commonwealth Games in Australia. Over 60 Ghanaians who posed themselves as journalists and athletes were arrested and deported for obtaining visas for the Commonwealth Games. A communication from the presidency – the Jubilee House – on Monday said the duo have been exonerated by the police report and can resume work. “The report of the enquiry into the allegations, which was submitted to the President on Friday, 6th July, 2018, contained no adverse findings against them,” the Director of Communications at the presidency Eugene Arhin said in a statement. The Australian authorities had in a statement said although the deportees had the necessary accreditation, they were not convinced the reported persons were real journalists and athletes. Following this, the government referred the case to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Station. The two were however cleared after the investigations. Nonetheless, the statement from the presidency did not say anything about the others who were implicated or whether someone has been found culpable of facilitating the visas for the deportees.
