File picture[/caption] The Ghana Police Service has dedicated a particular mobile number solely for receiving videos of personnel captured on camera misconducting themselves. ACP David Eklu, Director General of Police Public Affairs who disclosed this to Abena Tabi on TV3’s NewDay Saturday edition said the move is part of the police transformation drive. He is therefore pleading with the general public to send to the police administration, videos of “police unprofessionalism”. Such videos could reach the police service on WhatsApp number 0206639121. The number is strictly for videos, no voice, he advised. ACP Eklu was commenting on the widely circulated video of a uniformed police officer brutalising a woman carrying a toddler at a banking hall on Thursday. Though the police administration has been undertaking a number of activities to transform the service as disciplined security agency which does not operate with force, Mr. David Eklu said the attitude of the young officer is an “indication that there is more work to do”. For that reason, he said, the person who shared the video, which is helping to get justice for the woman should be commended by all. Disgust According to him, the video was all over platforms of police personnel with both junior and senior officers “discussing it and they showed disgust about it”. He pleaded, “the public should share information with us so that those whose actions are not in line with what we are doing [would be sanctioned]…this is unacceptable and we condemn it”. Service enquiry The police administration is pursuing both the professional and criminal angles to the misconduct. A service enquiry would by next week be put together to investigate the officer identified as Lance Corporal Godzi Fredrick Amanor, in addition to him being prosecuted, he revealed. The said officer who was arrested on Friday, has been interdicted, a police statement said. Meanwhile, ACP Eklu said the public can also reach them on 191 which is an all purpose number – for crimes and reporting police misconduct – and toll free number 18555. Many have expressed reservations in the past about police’s emergency numbers, but he has encouraged the public to call the numbers, noting that the police “emergency response has improved”.
