Many Ghanaians that have expressed anger at a viral video involving students of Adisadel College in Cape Coast, are also calling for stiffer and deterring punishment for those involved.
The management of the school have taken an “interim” action about the disturbing video of a student strangling a colleague with others looking on.
Parents with wards in the school have duly been informed about the interim action pending final decision of Board of Governors and the Ghana Education Service (GES).
Per a communique by the Headmaster of the school through the PTA Chairman, the incident happened on 30th June 2023.
The culprit, the victim as well as the student who videoed the violence and those present have been sanctioned.
“The boys decided to hide it until the video came out (even the victim himself). Reason why the victim too is being punished,” the communique explained.
1- the culprit would be sent home, he will not write the exams here on campus(he has to go to WAEC centre) to do so
2-the victim is also going home but he will have to come and write the exams with parental escort
3-the one who did the video and sent it viral will be suspended externally one week, come back and do internal work for one week and bring the phone else he will also be sanctioned
4-the others who were there but did nothing, didn’t report will all do internal punishment
5-the house master and his co will be suspended immediately, pending the outcome of this video (act) by GES
Meanwhile, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has applauded the swift disciplinary measures, it has directed the Regional Director of Education to collaborate closely with both the school authorities and the relevant law enforcement agency.
