A communicator of the governing New Patriotic Party in the Agona West, Central Region, was allegedly beaten by a parliamentary aspirant, Evans Addison Coleman, popularly called Onomah, for criticizing the latter’s ethnocentric comments. Idriss Ali Musah popularly known as Mallam Iddi who reported the issue to the Swedru Division of the Ghana Police Service was issued with a medical form and treated at Swedru Government Hospital. It all started when Mr. Onomah, a former constituency chairman of Agona West, allegedly incited residents to chase out persons he considered strangers from the area. “The so called centre will never hold until the disrespectful strangers are chased out of our land, who’s scared of recordings? We will chase the sycophants out of our land and I, a royal indigene is proud of my heritage. Let no disrespectful stranger prove a ruckus,” the aspirant posted on a whatsapp group page. The comments attracted criticisms from a number of party functionaries with some unsuccessfully getting Mr. Onomah to retract them. Mallam Iddi told 3news.com whilst on his way to his butchery shop, he stopped by a vendor to buy food on Wednesday when he got attacked by the aspirant for criticizing him. According to him, the aspirant claimed he (Iddi) has referred to him as a “shithole”, which he denied. He said, he rather told Mr. Onomah that he has only been expressing his reservations on the ethnocentric comments. “He started slapping me but because he was older than me, did not retaliate. It was passersby who rushed to my aid to get him to release me,” the NPP communicator recounted, “I still feel pains in my chest and neck”. Although attempts to reach Mr. Onomah has not been successful, sources at the Swedru Divisional Police Command confirmed that the incident has been reported and investigation has commenced in earnest.
