President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has revoked the appointments of 24 Municipal and District Chief Executives.
The president’s action is in accordance with article 243 (3) (b) of the Constitution, and section 20 (3) (b) of the Local Government Act, 2014, (Act 936).
The revocation was contained in a letter dated 2nd February 2024, and addressed to Mr. Dan Botwe, Minister for Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development.
“…I write to inform you that I have revoked the appointments of the following persons as District Chief Executives,” the letter read in part, without explaining what might have led to their dismissal.
The affected Assemblies: Ahafo Ano North, Amansie West, Nkroranza South, Pru East, Sene East, Awutu Senya West, Asuogyaman, Atiwa West, New Juaben North, Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Adentan, Ga Central, Ga East, Weija Gbawe and East Mamprusi.
The rest are: Krachi West, Nkwanta South, Sawla-Tuna-Kalba, Bolga East, Bawku East, Sissala West, South Tongu, Amenfi Central and Nzema East.
President Akufo-Addo also requested the sector minister “to give immediate effect” to his directive.
“I will, under separate cover, write to you to nominate their replacements,” the president noted.
