The embattled Minister of State at the Ministry of Finance, Charles Adu Boahen has been sacked.
President Nana Akufo-Addo terminated the appointment of the minister on Monday with immediate effect.
Mr. Adu Boahen was appointed in 2017.
“After being made aware of the allegations levelled against the Minister in the exposé, ‘Galamsey Economy’, the President spoke to Mr Adu Boahen, after which he took the decision to terminate his appointment, and also to refer the matter to the Special Prosecutor for further investigations,” the Director of Communications at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin said in a statement.
The President thanked Mr Adu Boahen for his “strong services to his government” since his appointment.
According to Mr. Arhin, the president also wished him well in his future endeavours.
Mr. Adu Boahen was captured in a yet to be aired documentary by investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas, telling undercover investigators that Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia needs just $200,000 token as an appearance fee before meeting with supposed investors.
The Vice President has since disassociated himself from the comments made by the minister.
In a post on facebook, the Vice President, Dr. Bawumia said the position of the Minister was “untenable” if what was captured in the video was accurate and therefore wants him investigated.
