Ghana’s President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo has declined to give a brief account of his stewardship so far as the economy of the country is concerned.
The president perhaps felt ambushed when journalists covering the New Patriotic Party presidential primary at the party’s headquarters chipped in a question bothering on the economy as he was conveniently answering questions about the NPP’s primary.
The journalists, who had mobbed the president while on his way to his vehicle, wanted his take on who he believed could win the bid as the flagbearer to which he insisted that “it is the people who will decide…the one that the grassroots of our party want is the one who will win”.
Then the surprise question flew in; “Mr President, would you say you have managed the economy well?”
Visibly stunned, President Akufo-Addo replied, “You want me to come and have this interview here, today?”
The president did not take any further question as he entered his vehicle and was chauffeured away.
He was at the party’s national headquarters to vote in the NPP presidential primary primarily which involved Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Member of Parliament for Assin Central Kennedy Agyapong, former Agriculture Minister Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, and former Mampong Member of Parliament Francis Addai-Nimoh.
