For about two years now, there has been an influx of young artistes in the Ghanaian music industry; young artistes that are coming up with styles we couldn’t have predicted a couple of years ago. Styles that have been accepted by the Ghanaian public. The country has seen faces like that of the late Ebony Reigns, Wendy Shay, Kwesi Arthur, King Promise, Medikal, Kwame Eugene, and many others that are making waves all around. On the X Jam show on 17th January 2019, on X Live Africa, Osu, Ama Petal, one of these young artistes coming up with the current wave, unveiled her new song for the first time on air, among other things, whiles interacting with the host, Thompson C D Nortey. She recounted an interview on a Zylofon programme with Sammy Flex where she received a message from someone that the most controversial and crowd pulling dancehall king, Shatta Wale, wanted to hop on her song “boys no dey pay” ,for a remix. Shatta Wale is said to have heard about the song and was wildly impressed. She was ecstatic! Shatta Wale sent her a message on Instagram, she met him in person, and they were texting each other about the collaboration all happening within the shortest possible time, she said recalling how the song happened. The upcoming songstress, Ama Petal, took Thompson through her journey with music and how far she has come. She spoke about how she worked with a couple of Record labels – from Kumasi to Accra – in the past but didn’t see any fruits because their visions didn’t match their actions. This led to her absence in the game for about two years after she completed her education at then Sunyani Polytechnic. She also intimidated that she went on hibernation for sometime to make money and also prepare herself better for the industry because “as a female without money, people will like to take advantage of you”. She recounted that its being quite a tough journey but currently she has to her list, performances and appearances at the X-Concert, Reign Concert Thanksgiving, African Tertiary Awards and more, She hopes to soon have appearances and nominations on the Vodafone Music Awards and other big events. She added that she doesn’t even pay for instrumentals anymore because beat makers trust in her ability so much they bring her free instrumentals to do something with. When asked by X-Jam Show host Thompson C D Nortey, who she hoped to collaborate with in the future, she emphatically mentioned Stonebwoy, Sarkodie, Darko Vibes, among a few others. She also hinted about her upcoming album this year titled, “Love and money”. Source: Xlive Africa | Ghana]]>
