Two Niger nationals intercepted at the covid-19 safety check point at COCOBOD head office in Accra last week, April 5, have tested positive.
The two were on board a taxi cab from Pokuase on the day of their interception.
According to 3news.com’s police source, the foreign nationals who first claimed to be Togolese, were sent to the Greater Accra Regional Hospital for testing.
3news.com gathered that the covid-19 unit at the hospital declined to keep the suspects after taking the sample, compelling the police to send them back to the station pending the release of the result.
Our deep source at the regional command said the police were compelled to convert an office into a temporary holding place for the foreign nationals.
Finally, the results were released on Saturday and they proved positive for the covid-19 pandemic.
Though several distress calls from the police have been made to managers of the covid-19 emergency centres, our source said, the unit has declined to act.
The police have now adopted a 24-hour surveillance at the station since the results were released.
Our sources at the Regional Police Command say the situation has exposed the police personnel and other users of the Accra central police station to the risk of contracting the coronavirus.
There is currently fear and anxiety among the personnel.
They have interacted and shared almost every facility with the Niger nationals since they were brought to the station on Sunday.
