Some aspirants in the up-coming district assembly elections have started defacing posters of their opponents in order to reduce their visibility and popularity.
A case in point is the Darko-krom/Afful-krom electoral area at Kojokrom near Sekondi in the Western region.
Three candidates are contesting in the area but the targets seem to be Michael Takyi, who is the incumbent and Napoleon Agyemang Oduro, National vice president of the Poultry Farmers Association of Ghana.
Mr. Agyemang Oduro says, most of his posters at some strategic locations in the area have been defaced or torn down and he suspects one of his opponents to be behind it.
He believes the action is borne out of mischief, just to make him unpopular. The matter has since been reported to the kojokrom police.
In the meantime, all the aspirants have been invited by the police and cautioned. They have also been charged to advise their supporters to avoid engaging in such acts.
In a related development, the Western regional head of the Electoral Commission, Angelina Tagoe says the act forms part of electoral offences and has cautioned all to desist from it.
