Four juveniles found guilty of gang-raping a teenage girl at Bantama, a suburb of Kumasi, have been handed a 36 month correctional sentencing. The minors will serve their terms in a senior correctional Centre in Accra. Five persons were arrested by the police in December 2017 after their video went viral for gang-raping a teenager at Bantama. A Kumasi Circuit Court last month found all accused persons guilty and convicted them. One of them, Ernest Asare, who was found to be 20 years, was handed a 7-year jail term. The remaining four, who are minors, were referred to a district court for sentencing. Each of the four persons was handed a 36-month jail term, translating into 3 years. A Social Welfare Inquiry report had recommended a 12 month jail term for the fifth convict, who was found guilty of an additional charge of aiding and abetting for filming the incident. But the court presided over by Her Worship Christina Cann insisted all the convicts served equal sentences. The five accused persons were convicted for defilement, conspiracy to commit crime and abetment. Seven persons were spotted in the video but only five of them were arrested and processed before the court. Two of them are still at large. Source: Ibrahim Abubakar | 3news.com]]>
