One officer of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has been shot dead by unknown assailants in conflict-prone Bawku in the Upper East Region.
Two other officers are fighting for their lives at the Bawku Presbyterian Hospital, where they were rushed after the incident.
The three were attacked Monday night on their way to Missiga station.
Newstitbits‘ sources at the Ghana Immigration Service have confirmed the incident, noting that the deceased had just received his LLB certificate, and had gone to his command to present his certificate but was caught up in the unfortunate incident.
It’s unclear what the motive of the attackers were but their action is said to be related to the protracted ethnic conflict in the area.
Civilians have been terrorised by gunmen who have been at the center of Kusasi-Mamprusi conflict.
The deceased officer has been identified as Philip Motey while the injured are Eric Ayibiya, 30, and Laurence Afri, 42.
Military presence have been beefed up in the town as the gunmen are chased.
