The spokesperson for Dr. Bawumia’s 2024 campaign team, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has stated that Dr. Bawumia will only participate in the upcoming presidential debate organized by the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) if former President John Dramani Mahama is also present.
The IEA previously announced that the first and second presidential debates are scheduled for October 22 and November 19, 2024, respectively.
In a statement, the IEA outlined plans for two presidential debates, one vice-presidential debate, and five evening encounters ahead of the December 7 polls.
The vice-presidential debate is slated for November 5, 2024. The first of the five evening encounters will take place on Wednesday, September 18, with the final one scheduled for Tuesday, October 15.
Speaking in an interview with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Eyewitness News on Citi FM on Friday, Mr Aboagye emphasised that Dr Bawumia was eager to engage in a meaningful debate on national issues but believes that the presence of M. Mahama was crucial for a balanced and comprehensive discourse.
He stressed that the December polls will be between Dr Bawumia and Mahama for which reason there was no debate if Dr Bawumia’s key contender was not participating.
