“Because anyone who serves Christ in this way is pleasing to God and receives human approval.” (Romans 14:18)
It is possible to serve God in such a way that we both please Him and are simultaneously approved by men.
The previous verse teaches us how to achieve this. It’s by pursuing righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.
“For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.” (Romans 14:17)
If we deliberately live right before God, stay at peace with men, and cultivate joy within us at all times, our lives will definitely be a delight both to God and men.
Pio of Pietrelcina made the profound statement that, “You must concentrate on pleasing God alone, and if He is pleased, you must be pleased.” When God is pleased with us, He is able to make even our enemies live at peace with us.
“When a man’s ways are pleasing to the LORD, he makes even his enemies live at peace with him.” (Proverbs 16:7)
