On this day in 1898, the Irish poet, author and theologian, Clive Staples Lewis (C. S. Lewis for short) was born.
As a former atheist, Lewis had written off Christianity in his early teens and lived his entire 20s as an atheist. He converted to Christianity after many debates and conversations which eventually convinced him.
Lewis authored about 40 books in his lifetime, one of which was “Mere Christianity,” a classic Christian apologetic piece targeted primarily at the doubting mind. The following profound statements are credited to him:
“I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen: not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else.”
“I know now, Lord, why you utter no answer. You are yourself the answer. Before your face questions die away. What other answer would suffice?”
“There is but one good; that is God. Everything else is good when it looks to Him and bad when it turns from Him.”
May we be inspired by the life of C. S. Lewis to keep up our faith in the Omnipotent God.
“And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” (Hebrews 11:6)
