Trying to do everything is the greatest distraction in life and the arch enemy of focus. Until you focus on a particular goal or a specific set of goals at a time, your greatest strength will not be seen.
The fact of the matter is that you can only do certain things so well within a given period of time.
“…but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before.” (Philippians 3:13)
Your ability to differentiate what you need to forget from what to reach out for is the key to focus. Being busy must not be confused with being productive. At every point in time, there’s something needful that must be prioritized above others.
When Jesus visited the home of Mary and Martha, He was more pleased with Mary who shut off all distractions and focused solely on listening to Him.
But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”
“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.” (Luke 10:40-42)
May you discover what is needed for you today and focus on it.
