BKQ Foundation, a Non Governmental Organization (NGO) has given a facelift to the dilapidated school building of Ayalolo 1&2 Junior High School located at James Town in Accra.
The refurbishment, which started in June 2024, follows a request made by the school authorities to the NGO to come to its aid.
According to school authorities, Ayalolo JHS was established in 1958 and hasn’t seen any major uplift since its inception.
Before BKQ came in to support, the school had deteriorated badly with numerous holes in the ceiling which made learning difficult when it rains.
The Foundation, which aims to foster positive change through a holistic approach thus re-roofed the entire building and gave it a fresh coat of paint giving the school a beautiful appearance.
It also provided a mechanized borehole to supply water to the school community.
At a brief handing over ceremony on July 22, 2024, the project manager for BKQ Foundation explained that the renovation was meant to enhance teaching and learning and also to preserve the school for generations to come.
“Our Foundation has worked tirelessly to renovate this infrastructure with the focus on enhancing the teaching and learning environment for teachers and students… The objective of this renovation is to preserve this historic infrastructure for generations unborn,” she said.
Touching on the mechanized borehole, the project manager added that it will “take care of the sanitary conditions of the school.”
On their part, the school authorities expressed their gratitude to the Foundation for coming to their aid.
Some students who were filled with joy also thanked the foundation.
“We can learn and feel comfortable in our classroom without the rain disturbing us,” a student said.
