Vehicle owners have been thronging the offices of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) in the Central Regional capital, Cape Coast since January 3, to get new suffix -23, a number plate representing the year of registration as required by law.
The situation appears to have created the opportunity for middlemen popularly referred to as ‘Goro – Boys’ offering all kinds of support to persons wanting to register their vehicles for a fee.
Management has therefore cautioned customers trooping to the DVLA’s offices not to seek any assistance from the ‘Goro – Boys’, but should rather engage accredited staff of the Authority.
When our correspondent visited the Cape Coast DVLA office, many vehicles had queued for inspection and subsequent registration.
According to the Regional Manager, Driver and Vehicles Licensing Authority, Rev. Lawrence Adom noted that in spite of the number, the process has been smooth without any problem regarding the checking of the documentation.
A vehicle owner who was successful with the registration, Mr. Stephen Arthur confirmed that “this year was not as chaotic as last year”.
