A group calling itself, Ghana Youth For Development and Accountability (GYFDA) has called on youths in the various constituencies across the 16 regions to vote against the Majority Caucus in Parliament in the 2024 general elections.
The Members of Parliament of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) walked out during the vote on a censure motion against the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta in Parliament on December 8, 2022.
“We know, constituents at various constituencies told their MPs to let Ofori-Atta go since Ofori-Atta’s tenure as Finance Minister has brought nothing good but ‘Economic Calamity’ and we the ordinary citizens are the ones bearing the consequences.
“Currently, the hardship in the country is too much and investors’ are afraid to invest in the country due to the poor performance of the Ghana Cedis, another handwork of Ken Ofori Atta. Due to this, Ken Ofori Atta’s incompetence, the government can no longer employ we (the youth) after graduating from college (s),” the group said in a press statement.
The GYFDA expressed displeasure at NPP MPs for declining the request of their constituents to “sack” Ken Ofori-Atta.
The group believes that the only measure that can revive public and investors’ confidence as far as Ghana’s economy is concerned, is when Ken Ofori-Atta is removed from office.
“But our own MPs which we believe feel the heat of economic hardship on that day washed their hands with sanitizer and left the chamber…meaning they are just playing with the future of we the youth and we must resist by voting against them during 2024 Parliamentary elections.
“If truly, Nana Akufo-Addo is a ‘listening President’ and have the youth at heart, then we, the Ghana Youth for Development and Accountability call on President Nana Addo to let Ken go,” the group stressed.
