Following the cedis’ appreciation against the US dollars with the resultant downward trend of petroleum prices, Road Transport Operators announced a reduction in transport fares by 15.3%.
The new fares which take effect from Monday, December 19, 2022 affect shared taxis, intra-city (trotro), intercity (long distance) and haulage.
One recurring incident, whenever there is an increment or reduction of transport fares, has been the misunderstanding between commuters and transport operators about the exact amount to charge, which are usually announced in percentages. The arguments sometimes get dirty and fatal. This is usually as a result of miscalculation.

Meanwhile, the leadership of Road Transport Operators have admonished members to comply with the new fares.
“We kindly request all Commercial Transport Operators to comply with the new fares and post same at their loading terminals. We further request all Operators, Commuters and the General Public to kindly cooperate for the successful implementation of the new fares. We take this opportunity to assure all Transport Operators and the General Public that we will continue to work in their interest.”
