The Minister of Education has summoned the management of Adisadel College to a meeting in Accra following the disturbing violence meted out to a student by a colleague on school grounds.
Information reaching Newstitbits.com indicates that both the Metropolitan and Regional Education Directors of Education have also been invited for the said meeting.
Details of the scheduled meeting are unknown but sources say it relates to the viral video of that violent assault on a student.
Many Ghanaians expressed shock and disgust when the video surfaced on social media on Tuesday, July 25, however, a communique by the Headmaster of the school through the PTA Chairman disclosed that the incident happened about a month ago on 30th June 2023.
A brief statement from the school administration said that the incident was kept hidden by both the culprit and the victim.
The statement additionally reported that all actors involved in the said violence including the victim have been sanctioned as follows:
“The culprit has been sent home and will not write the exams on campus (he has to go to WAEC centre) to do so. The victim is also going home but he will have to come and write the exams with parental escort”‘ read portions of the communique.
“The one who did the video and sent it viral will be suspended externally one week, come back and do internal work for one week and bring the phone else he will also be sanctioned.”
Further details show that the house master and his co will be suspended immediately, pending the outcome by GES.
Some stakeholders have however condemned school authorities for punishing the victim. Others have also called on the Education Ministry to hold a meeting to find lasting solutions to indiscipline and bullying in basic and secondary education in the country.
Meanwhile, many believe that far reaching decisions will be taken at the meeting convened by the Education Minister to remedy the situation and curtail the rampant bullying in Senior High Schools.
