The Eastern regional police command has arrested six suspected robbers at Pentuawala and its environs in the Eastern region after three days of operation. They are Emmanuel Amoah, Twumasi Samuel, Kwasi Sokpo, Daniel Bekoe, Divine Modzaka, and Edward Nketiah. The seventh person, Richard Obeng who is a taxi driver is on the run, TV3 Eastern regional correspondent Yvonne Neequaye reports. The police, after conducting a search on them in their hideouts, retrieved eight laptops, a crowbar and three masks among other items. The Deputy Eastern Regional Police Commander ACP Nuhu Jango says his outfit intends to make robbery and other crimes expensive for criminals. His outfit would also intensify its foot patrols, he said. Records from the police indicate that residential robberies in the past four weeks have been on the rise, putting the police on alert. ACP Nuhu Jango said three suspects were arrested on February 11 in their first operation. On the same day, he said, the police received reports on a robbery incident were laptops, mobile phones and other valuables running into millions of Ghana cedis were stolen. Upon a tipoff, a fourth suspect who is a computer technician at Pentuawala a suburb of Koforidua was arrested. Some laptops were retrieved from him, and upon interrogations he mentioned the suspects who brought the laptops to him for decoding as well as other accomplices in the robbery syndicate.
