Ace investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas has stated emphatically that reasons assigned by Justice Eric Baah in dismissing his defamatory suit against Kennedy Agyapong was wrong in law and facts.
In dismissing the 25 million cedis suit, the High Court Judge described the multiple award winning journalist as a criminal, corrupt, extortionist, cheat, blackmailer and self-confessed criminal.
But in his first public statement after the ruling, Anas expressed surprised about the outcome of the suit.
“Although the news about the dismissal of our defamation suit against the Member of Parliament was unexpected, I disagree with the judge’s reasoning both on the law and the facts,” Anas said in a statement copied to Newstitbits.com.
His style of investigation has been criticized by some whilst others whose nefarious deals have been exposed by his works have attacked him in varied ways.
However, he pointed out in his statement that he “never assumed it would be an easy road” in his 22 journey as an investigative journalist.
Many of Anas’ works have been celebrated globally.
“It is the evidence in my work and my commitment to truth and justice that has always led and prevailed against all the forces that have worked to pull us down,” he asserted.
“My team and I remain unwavering, despite the attacks on us. From the death of Ahmed, to constant threats on our lives, we remain guided by the principles of fairness, integrity and courage as we continue our investigations in the public interest.”
Criminal pronouncements
Anas accused the trial judge of delving into issues that were not before him.
“My team of lawyers and I, have carefully studied the judgment delivered by the court and we’re unanimous that the judge made an overreach and descended into the arena and made criminal pronouncements about me as if I was standing a criminal trial. He also justified the MP accusing me of the murder of the late JB Danquah, murder of twenty Chinese nationals and a host of other crimes.”
Appeal
“We are filing an appeal because there was no evidence provided,” he disclosed.
Meanwhile, Anas has similar defamatory suit filed against the Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong in the United States of America.
“As a student and practitioner, I strongly believe in the rule of law. That’s why I initiated this action in the first place. The fight continues, till we can create a just society for ourselves and the next generation.”
