The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Bernard Anwti Boasiako popularly known as Chairman Wontumi has made an appeal to President Akufo-Addo to prioritise work on the Suame interchange.
In a media engagement on Monday May 29, the Regional Chairman admitted that though the president cannot fulfill all his promises, he should do well to commence the construction of the anticipated four-tier interchange.
Chairman Wontumi tied the electoral fortunes of the governing NPP in the upcoming 2024 elections within the region to the smooth progression of work on the interchange.
Addressing the media, he declared that “we know he cannot fulfill all his promises but at least he must at least start work on this project so that people vote for him in 2024.”
“We are only begging the President to ensure that work begins on the Suame interchange,” he added.
The Suame Interchange will include five overpasses to widen the Kumasi-Offinso Road and is scheduled to be constructed in two phases within a period of 30 months.
A sod was cut for the construction of the interchange by President Akufo-Addo in November 2022 and upon completion would be the first of its kind in the Ashanti Region.
