There have been public outcry about the seeming high number of ministers that have been appointed by the president.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has so far appointed 36 ministers; six of them will work from the presidency.
Many fear he would name more ministers than his predecessor, which they say could put a lot of pressure on the national purse. The government has yet convinced people why the need for more ministers.
However, the president of the Ghana Union of Traders Association, Dr. Nana Barima Ameyaw wants Ghanaians to be concerned with the benefits.
“Some of these initiatives should be undertaken by him to achieve the successes that he needs. And by doing all these things it will inure to the benefit of the country.
“I think we as a nation should think about the cost benefit analysis and if will bring us profits why not?” he stated
On his part, economist Courage Kinsley Martey says there is no cause for alarm, adding that it was too early to complain about the number.
“Sometimes you employ a certain number of people to generate a certain amount of revenue. And this is done such that, you don’t run at a loss. To the extent that we are not able to do this analysis, then I think it is too early or premature to make claim that the appointment will be hurtful to the economy” he suggested.
