A personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) fractured his legs and arms when he jumped from the 3rd floor of a building, on the spur of the moment, whilst fighting a raging fire.
The three-storey building which houses Rana Motors on the Graphic Road in Accra went up in flames Tuesday evening around 10:00pm when workers had closed and gone home.
The Ghana National Fire Service said the fire officer was high on top of the building when a portion of it collapsed, forcing him to jump to the ground, which resulted in breaking of his hands and legs.
The Director of Public Affairs for the Ghana National Fire Service, Timothy Osafo Affum, told Onua FM on Wednesday, January 11 that the officer is currently receiving treatment at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.
“While they were fighting the fire, portions of the building collapsed, so he jumped from the third floor to the ground,” Mr. Osafo-Affum explained in Twi.
“As a result, his legs and hands broke but by God’s grace, he is receiving treatment at the Korle-Bu Hospital.”
The cause of the fire outbreak was not immediately known.
The Ghana National Fire Service has commenced investigations into the fire incident.
