Madam Frances Awurabena Asiam has resigned as the Chief Executive of the Ghana Cylinder Manufacturing Company Limited.
She thanked the president for having “confidence” in her to have appointed her into that position.
“I Frances Awurabena Asiam in all humility and respect wish to inform you of my resignation as the Chief Executive of Ghana Cylinder Manufacturing Company Limited (GCMC),” her resignation letter addressed to the President Akufo-Addo, and dated February 23, 2023 read in part.
Her resignation comes just two days after President Akufo-Addo appointed Madam Genevieve Sackey as the Managing Director of the Company.
Madam Asiam was appointed the chief executive of the company in May 2017.
She had some challenges at the company in her early days.
For instance, in 2018 she had some problems with her board leading to her controversial suspension which was strongly opposed by the workers of the company.
A five-member committee was constituted by the board to investigate allegations of financial impropriety against her.
Madam Asiam was alleged to have locked the company and ordered the staff to stay at home until further notice.
Her action did not go down well with the board who convened an emergency meeting after which they voted 6-3 to suspend her.
There are reports that Maadam recently had unhealthy working relationship with the Energy Minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh over a contract.
Meanwhile, Madam Asiam has told Asaase Radio that she resigned “honourably” on her own.
“I resigned on my own … Nobody can force me to resign,” she told radio station on Friday, February 24, 2023, “but coming events cast their shadow …”
In a letter, which a copy is available to Newstitbits.com, Nana Bediatuo Asante, Secretary to the President informed the Minister of Energy about the appointment of Madam Genevieve Sackey.
“kindly take the necessary steps to regularise the said appointment in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Companies Act, 2019 (Act 992) and the regulations of the company,” the letter dated February 21, 2023 said.
