The Chairman of the South African Council of Elders of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Benjamin Quashie is asking Ghanaians to give former President John Mahama another chance to save Ghana’s ailing economy from crashing completely.
The NDC executive opined that despite the tight competition for flagbearership among John Mahama, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor and the two other competitors, the ultimate aim is to rescue Ghanaians from the economic mess created by the NPP administration.
“We want to take the Ghanaian people from the economic doldrums that they find themselves in…we believe in one person that can do this and that person is John Mahama,” said Mr. Quashie in a Joy News interview on February 23, 2023.
Explaining his views on why the regional chairmen picked forms for John Mahama, he said their action is an endorsement of Mr. Mahama’s ability to deliver and a believe in his qualities as a leader and unifier.
He noted that none of the candidates should be ran down, however, the bigger picture is to wrest power from the NPP administration, and Mahama is the best candidate for the task ahead.
According to him, the achievements of Mr. Mahama speaks volumes and none of the other contending candidates for flagbearership is at par with his feat.
When confronted with the failures of John Mahama especially in the 2016 and 2020 elections, Benjamin Quashie replied that Mahama “has been candid to admit his flaws” and has said that he would do things differently when given a second opportunity.
