Government is taking steps to evacuate Ghanaians who have been trapped in Sudan following an intense conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces and Paramilitary Rapid Support Forces.
Khartoum, which is the capital city is the epicenter of the deadly clashes with civilians, including Ghanaian citizens, being the most affected.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration which made the announcement, Ghana’s Embassy in Cairo, which is concurrently accredited to Sudan, is working closely with the Ministry and the Honorary Consulate to coordinate the evacuation of Ghanaian nationals.
In a statement dated April 23, the Foreign Affairs Ministry declared that “a number of Ghanaian nationals, particularly students, have been affected by the conflict” however, “Ghana’s Honorary Consulate in Khartoum reports that all our nationals are safe.”
Government also assured the general public that every effort is being made to ensure the safety of their lives ones.
The statement further appealed to the warring factions to cease fire and give peace a chance to avoid more avoidable casualties.
