Most parts of the country have been without electricity supply for several hours due to technical challenges. Sources at the power transmitter, Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo), say the tie line from Ivory Coast tripped on Tuesday rendering Ashanti, Central and Western Regions and part of Greater Accra out of power supply. GRIDCo confirmed in an official statement in the evening that “at 2:37pm, there was a major system disturbance following power swings from the Cote d’Ivoire interconnection with Ghana leading to outages in parts of the country.” Meanwhile, the management of Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) said the “system challenges” have resulted in instability in power supply as “all the NEDCo operational areas are experiencing an outage”. The main power distributor for the southern sector, the Electricity Company of Ghana in a notice to the public said “the situation is beyond ECG’s control”. It however added that “immediately the challenge is resolved, power supply will be restored to all affected areas”. Meanwhile, GRIDCo has said power supply has been restored to most parts of the country and efforts are currently underway to restore the remaining affected areas. By Isaac Essel | 3news.com | Ghana]]>
