James Gyakye Quayson, the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate in the upcoming by-election at the Assin North Constituency has been granted permission to absent himself from court sitting on Friday June 23.
This was after the High Court in Accra presided over by Justice Mary Maame Ekue Yanzuh heard arguments on his motion seeking variation of orders of the court to conduct his criminal case daily.
After adjourning the case to June 23, one of the days in contention, lead counsel for Mr Quayson, Tastsu Tsikata prayed for the presence of the accused to be dispensed on June 23.
But, the Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame opposed to that request and threatened that a bench warrant would be procured for his arrest if he doesn’t show up.
The trial judge after listening to the parties obliged James Quayson the permission to be absent from court the very day the court would rule on the matter.
According to EIB Network’s Legal Affairs Correspondent, Murtala Inusah, what this effectively means is that, James Quayson and the NDC have gotten what they wanted.
