The Ho Airport in the Volta Region has been disconnected by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) due to its accrued debt of GH¢63,000.
The removal of the airport forms part of ECG’s nationwide revenue mobilization exercise which began on Monday, March 20, 2023.
Other affected companies include the regional office of the Ghana Revenue Authority which owed GH¢55,000, KFC in Ho which owed GH¢68,000, and the Customs Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS) Training Academy in Kpetoe which owed GH¢80,000.
The Ho Technical University whose debt was totaling GH¢402,000 was able to pay GH¢200,000 after crunch talks with the ECG. The University, however, has up to the end of March 2023 to complete its arrears.
The University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) also made payment of GH¢1 million out of its GH¢1,400,000 debt.
According to the ECG, they “want customers to prioritize the payment of bills and this will enable us to collect more revenue to keep the power sector operating.”
ECG further noted its resolve to retrieve a debt of GH¢5.7 billion nationwide out of which customers in the Volta Region owe about GH¢292 million.
The company is therefore appealing to all customers to make payment before the disconnection team visits their premises.
