Kwesi Nyantakyi[/caption] Former Sports Minister under the erstwhile Mahama administration, Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuye says he is saddened by the lifetime ban imposed on former GFA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi by FIFA. Speaking on 3FM’s Sunrise morning show with Winston Amoah, Mr. Vanderpuye who is also the Member of Parliament for Odododiodio said as human, he would never “jump for joy” if his fellow man suffers such a fate. According to Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, the country is equally concerned about his ban. The former minister clarified that it would take a whole lot of work for a Ghanaian to climb to that position because the image, integrity and reputation of Ghana football administrators have been dented. “To every situation that you find yourself, there is a responsibility and for every action that you take, there is a consequence,” he said, adding that Mr. Kwesi Nyantakyi should have known that when he rose to that position. The MP said he had envisaged a thing like that whilst serving as a sports minister and did everything possible to make sure “we changed the way we do things” to bring in more transparency, accountability and responsiveness. Regrettably, he noted, people rather thought it was a “personal vendetta” and that he was being political. He lamented about the “endemic corruption” in the way football is administered where the norm was that “if you are not one of the big shots, you do not matter”. Kwesi Nyantakyi was given a 90 day provisional ban in June 2018 after Aremeyaw Anas’ exposé showing a video evidence of corruption allegations leveled against Kwesi Nyantakyi. The ban was extended for 45 days. FIFA on October 30 came out with its final ruling after investigating the video evidence. “The adjudicatory chamber of the independent ethics committee has banned Mr. Nyantakyi, former president of the Ghana Football Association for life from all football related activities at both national and international level,” FIFA statement said after finding the Ghanaian football administrator guilty.
