Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, says he put his political career on the line for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) while others only gave excuses when they were needed the most thus, deserves to be the next president.
The Vice President, who is now contesting nine other aspirants to be the NPP’s flagbearer, believes that the sacrifices he has made are sufficient for him to be the next leader of the party.
Addressing some delegates of the party in the Ashanti Region on Thursday, July 6, Dr. Bawumia recounted some sacrifices he made for the party during the 2012 and 2016 elections which culminated in the NPP’s victory in 2016.
He mentioned that during the 2012 election petition, he agreed to be a key witness when the party needed one but his current contenders at the time only gave excuses.
“Most of our members were giving excuses when the party was in need of a witness for the 2012 general election petition at the Supreme Court. I sacrificed my political career for the party, knowing very well the implications ahead if I don’t deliver well in court,” he said during his address.
He added that others afraid to come to the party’s aid for fear of risking their career but he stuck with the NPP through its difficult moments.
“The excuses were many, some claimed they were travelling and all that because they were scared to put their political career on the line, but I stood my ground, I’m the best person to lead the party,” Dr Bawumia stressed.
The Vice president is hoping to lead the party into the 2024 elections but he must first beat off competition from nine other contenders including; Alan Kyerematen, Joe Ghartey, Dr. Owusu Akoto Afriyie, Kennedy Agyapong, and a host of others.
Meanwhile, the supporters of former Trades Minister, Alan Kyeremanten believes that he has also sacrificed for John Agyekum Kuffuor and Akufo-Addo to be president thus, it is his turn.
